Thankfully, before things get beyond you, there’s Beyond Blue.
Our challenge was to help the community recognise the signs and symptoms of declining mental health earlier, and to reach out to Beyond Blue.
To speak to the millions of Australians who are currently experiencing their own unique challenges , we looked to the most expressive mediums. Music and art.
The TVC transcends language, and gives the viewer the opportunity to fill in the gaps with their lived experience.
We paired a stirring, atmospheric soundcape, composed by Grammy nominated artist Lance Gurisik, with crowd-sourced, hand-drawn depictions of the signs and symptoms of declining mental health.
Behind the squiggles
For thousands of years, people have relied on the
arts for communication, self-expression, and healing. So, this is how we chose to connect with our audience. Through a language that we all speak.
We identified the early symptoms of declining mental health alongside psycologists and ran multiple sessions with real people, who have experienced mental health issues.
We promted them with thoughts, feelings, and
actions and were able to identify consistent elements and themes across the 191 responses to form our visual devices.
We call them, the squiggles.
Thanks
And finally, to the team at Beyond Blue. This was a big creative push for a government organisation (bye bye infographics and stock illustrations).
Love yas, thank you for trusting us. at every step of the journey.
